Why do you Volunteer?
I was randomly surfing the web... YES I sometimes still have time for random web surfing, and came across Wikipedia's definition of 'Volunteer' @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volunteer. According to them these are the reasons people are likely to volunteer:
While I agree with these aspects of volunteering-each are also all portions of why I volutneer... I think they lacked ONE simple reason -- 'Just Because'
So in interests of why you volunteer, check off why you volunteer.
- Altruism
- Quality of life
- Giving back
- Sense of duty
- Religious
- Financial
- Social

Brian,
I like to give my time to the United Way for the many reasons that you list but I also do it for heart. I think that giving of yourself brings heart to the communities we all live in. The United Way, to me is the best way to get involved in something that gives the commity strength.
It also has a positive impact on the youth. When we volunteer our youth see that we care about more than just our own lives and can help make a difference in someone else's life. That to me is the United Way.
I agree. Volunteering brings a lot of heart to a community and that inturn strengthens a community in ways 'monetary-related' items can not.
As for the impact on youth, again, I wholeheartedly agree. But let's not forget, sometimes its also the older generations that need to see the 'impact' of volunteerism and why it's important.
